About us
Golden Retrievers are one of the most beloved breeds in the world — and one of the most medically vulnerable. Roughly six in ten Goldens will develop cancer. The breed carries elevated risks of hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, epilepsy, and serious eye conditions. Yet most of the advice owners find online is generic dog content, written for no breed in particular, by no one in particular.
Golden Retriever Insight exists to close that gap. Every guide on this site is written for one breed, with its specific risks, physiology, and temperament in mind — and every health guide is written and medically reviewed by a licensed veterinarian.
Meet the Founder
Dr. Nabeel Akram, DVM, is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with more than five years of hands-on experience in animal health, canine nutrition, and preventive care. He is a registered veterinarian with the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC), the statutory body regulating veterinary practice in Pakistan
Dr. Akram founded Golden Retriever Insight to give Golden owners the kind of guidance he found himself repeating in practice: what early cancer signs actually look like, when a seizure is an emergency and when it isn’t, how to feed a large breed through every life stage, and how to tell the difference between a symptom that can wait and one that can’t.
His clinical interests include canine oncology, epilepsy management, and breed-specific nutrition for large breeds — which is why those topics form the core of this site.

How We Create and Review Content
Every article on Golden Retriever Insight goes through the same process:
Written and medically reviewed by a veterinarian. Dr. Akram writes and reviews all health, nutrition, grooming, and breed-care content. Health articles carry a visible “Written & medically reviewed” byline with the date of the most recent review.
Checked against veterinary literature. Our guides are verified against current, authoritative sources — including the Merck Veterinary Manual, guidance from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, the Morris Animal Foundation, and peer-reviewed research. Where we cite a statistic, we link the source.
Written for this breed. Generic dog advice can be wrong for a Golden Retriever. Our dosing discussions, feeding amounts, symptom timelines, and risk assessments are framed for a large, deep-chested, cancer-prone breed — because that framing changes the answer more often than owners expect.
Kept current. Veterinary knowledge moves. We review and update our most-read guides regularly, and every article shows its last-updated date.
